It was a beautiful day and a beautiful event.
So many people had worked long and hard to transform the backyard into an incredible sanctuary for the couple’s wedding ceremony. Direction was given by the bride and groom. Lots of creativity…lots of innovation…lots of unconventionality but with a touch of tradition and familiarity. A country wedding with a feel of excellence. Many people working together toward a common goal. Sort of reminds me of the church.
At a point I noticed a “common thread” that connected the many people who were a part of the big day’s preparations. It was a spiritual connection…from many different walks. All were from the couple’s past or present. Church people. Theatre people. Family members. College friends. Friends of friends. All had been impacted in some way by the Lord through the bride and groom. The couple had given much to these relationships through the years and now were reaping the joyful returns.
It’s true. “Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.” (Galatians 6:7)
So…our decisions today really do affect our tomorrows. I want to make right choices – to sow with wisdom and discernment. Sometimes that takes a bold faith.
The groom in this story is my son. He married a beautiful girl who loves the Lord and comes from a terrific family of God-lovers. We are excited about the family link! I am thankful for the reminder from this sweet couple about the power of giving. “Lord, help me not to be so wrapped up in my own circumstances that I miss the opportunities You create to give myself away.”
BTW…we’ve had a few more lookers at the house (PTL!) and continue to trust the Lord for just the right place to land. Let’s see…who can I encourage along the way?
