Doing a good thing is a good thing to do.
Why do you think God’s Word exhorts us not to “grow weary of doing good”?
(2 Thessalonians 3:13) Here are some thoughts:
1. Doing good encourages our souls.
2. Doing good blesses others.
3. Doing good discourages doing bad.
4. Doing good makes us more like Jesus.
5. Doing good keeps our minds correctly focused.
6. Growing weary leads us into temptations.
7. Growing weary pulls others down.
8. Growing weary promotes an attitude of giving up.
9. Growing weary implies being self-centered.
10. Growing weary limits God’s plans.
In college (a LONG time ago!) our New Testament professor would say that Jesus had these three traits:
Jesus loved with an unconditional love.
Jesus had a servant heart.
Jesus was other-centered.
Since Jesus went about doing good, shouldn’t I?
During this waiting period in my life…or anytime really…when I find myself having grown weary it’s usually because I have failed to do good. The solution is to get outside myself and do something good for someone else.
It’s OK to be a do-gooder!
