On the road again

We started in Virginia Beach, VA, and ended up in Lancaster, PA.

On the way we passed through the states of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. It was my first time across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Pretty cool! Sure were lots of apparently slow seagulls along the bridge!

We were a two car caravan. Car 1 had my daughter, Hannah, her husband, Christopher and their daughter (my grandbaby!), Eden. Katha and I were close behind in Car 2 trying to stay focused on the car’s tail lights. As a back-up, I also had our GPS cranked up.

I confess: I’m a maps guy. Christopher knew exactly where we were going but I couldn’t comprehend the route. I needed more than just step-by-step…I needed the big picture. At a Welcome Center in Delaware I broke down and purchased a travel atlas. “Oh, that’s where we are!”, I said to my self as I found our location on the map. From that point on, I was good with the “feel” of the journey.

Sometimes God lets me see the “big picture” of His plan and sometimes it is as a “GPS”…step-by-step.

Today’s Psalm (27) begins, “The Lord is my light and my salvation.” Long term: salvation. Short term: light. When I’m traveling through the darkness, His light is enough. Just enough a get me to the next point of the journey. Maybe if I knew what was beyond that He knows I would cop out for another option or try to manipulate the circumstances.

The last verse of today’s Psalm is a challenging summary statement. Lord, give me Your strength!

“Wait for the Lord;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14
