To hoard or not to hoard?

Have you seen the TV shows where they visit someone’s house who has been hoarding stuff? It’s incredible! These people have been living in the midst of tons of junk for years!

A long time ago I had the wonderful privilege of visiting Israel on a choir tour. There were LOTS of interesting places to see and visit as we  walked paths that Jesus may have walked 2,000 years ago.

Two of my favorite places to visit were the bodies of water connected by the Jordan River: the Sea of Galilee to the north and the Dead Sea to the south. The Sea of Galilee was beautiful with lots of people activity, boats and sea food. The Dead Sea – not so much. It was desolate, no life and barren. The main difference between the two seas was in their flow. The Sea of Galilee received river water at one end and let it flow out at the other. The Dead Sea received water from one end – and then kept it all. The sea that received and “gave” water was filled with life. The sea that only received without giving grew stagnant and lifeless.

What a great picture of the Christian life! The person who receives then gives from his/her blessings will enjoy a fulfilling life with much peace and joy. The person who hoards all the blessings he/she receives is headed for trouble. God didn’t make us to hoard – He made us to give. GIVING is in His character and is a terrific privilege of His children.

What is something I can give away today?

  1. After a yard sale, we donate quality items left to Goodwill or Salvation Army rather than box it up again. BTW do you need a disc duplicator that we believe gave up the ghost at GLBC? Did you get a new e-mail address? Larry B.
