Child of My Child

Her name is Eden Elizabeth.Eden

I admit that I didn’t think grandkids would change my life. WRONG! From the struggles at her birth in January of 2013 til today it has been one “Oh, my goodness!” experience after another for this Gramps. She is a precious little girl with an exciting future. Her little personality is really taking shape.

At this point she has been through her first birthday…two Halloweens…two Thanksgivings…one Christmas…plus numerous other landmark events that her terrific parents have guided her through (including watching several Steeler’s football games with her Pittsburgh dad!)

Let me just say from my admitted bias that Eden is the cutest little girl in the whole world.

Yet as cute as she is, she, like the rest of us, has a definite sin nature. Sometimes it shows up at the dinner table or while getting a diaper changed or when playing with her toys or…

Through being around Eden, God has reminded me of a few things. Among other things, (1) I have a definite sin nature, (2) He loves me unconditionally, (3) I am the “apple of His eye” – Psalm 17:8, (4) I must trust Him with child-like faith, (5) He delights in giving me good things, (6) I am a unique creation of His and, (6) He shows great patience with my whining.

Now, it is almost time for Eden to become a big sister as her mom is expecting to give birth in the very near future. I wonder what changes that will bring for Eden? There will surely be times of  adjustment.

And as I go through changes, there will surely be times of adjustment.

God certainly has a sense of humor to use children as a mirror to show us our imperfections. It’s all a part of this thing we call “life”.
