I’m a Fairly Grownup Two Year Old

This poetic story was inspired by my beautiful almost two year old granddaughter, Eden.

I’m a fairly grownup two year old who knows her mind quite well.
I know my name and alphabet and things too gross to tell.

Constructing things with building blocks is not my strongest norm,
but with a box of colors I can color up a storm.

I like to play with stickers of almost any kind,
and think I may throw up if I watch “Frozen” one more time.

To you my short attention span may seem to be a curse
when you are with your favorite show or cleaning out your purse,

But I assure you I know how to take my precious time
when sitting on the potty while you say those silly lines.

And when it comes to mealtime I really must confess
Spaghetti is my food of choice for planning out a mess.

I do not care for Brussel Sprouts or any food that’s blue,
and pancakes made with mayo? I expect much more from you.

If asking my opinion of a color, food or show,
remember that I really like the sound of saying “no”.

When dressing me for going out, it really is quite silly
not to change my diaper before trying something frilly.

With little sister coming soon, I’ll do the best I can
to teach her how to “learn the ropes” and follow my demands.

Perhaps I’ll share more wisdom when we get to have our walk.
There’s more inside to tell you – if only I could talk.
