Huh?

I enjoy working at The Home Depot. Meeting lots of people…making new friends…having fun helping people with their projects.

Most customers know exactly what they are looking for and are good at describing it. However, it is hard to understand exactly what some folk are looking for.

One man approached me in the hardware aisle and, using hand gestures, asked, “Do you have that stuff that fixes things?” (I pause with wonder) My reply, “Sure. It’s at the whatchamacallit aisle over there.”

Before you berate me too badly for this flippant response, let me tell you the above was a playful prank by another Home Depot associate. It was all in fun!

However, it reminded me of my spiritual ambiguity with the Lord at times. God wants to answer specific requests from me. And instead of lumping everything into one “Thank you, Lord, for you blessings”, its best to name the blessings one by one. (Sounds like a hymn, doesn’t it?!)

If I want specific answers I need to make specific requests. It’s as if God approaches me in the aisle of life and asks, “My I help you?” Will I be ready with a particular response or reply with “No thank you. I’m just looking.”

  1. Love this! I agree God wants us to be specific and He will answer in His way, maybe not ours, but truly the best! Thanks for sharing! Miss you guys!
