Home and Family

Family on the trailThe importance of family cannot be overemphasized.

Katha and I had the great privilege of hosting our kids and grandkids for the Easter holidays last week. It was an incredible time! Being with my family creates a “happy zone” in my life.

Why is that?

I know that my family members (i.e. wife, kids, grandkids) know I am not perfect but they accept me for who I am. Unconditionally. They want and hope the best for me. Believe in me. Support me. When I laugh, they laugh. When I weep, they weep with me.

Everyone needs family. Though not everyone has the opportunity for a close “blood” family, there are other family groups where acceptance and encouragement happens. Most importantly, for believers, that “family” should be the church. Others find help in close friends, civic clubs, organizations, etc.

Of course, all that encouragement I receive by being with family doesn’t really come from them but through them. God is the source of all I need. He uses family to apply His goodness.

Where do you find your “happy zone”?
