Last Friday night, Katha and I enjoyed a performance of THE MIRACLE WORKER at the beautiful and historic Barter Theatre in Abingdon.
The cast did a super job of performance and reminded me again of how incredible the life of Helen Keller was. No sight – no hearing – and yet earned a bachelor of arts degree, authored several books and lectured around the country. Quite remarkable!
We sighted people have a difficult time understanding how a blind person can experience such success in life…and yet it happens time and again.
I have a hard time navigating my way through my dark house at night if I need to visit the kitchen, bathroom, office, etc. I walk blindly. The secret is to know where objects are when it’s light…then moving around/past them when it’s dark. (As long as the furniture doesn’t get rearranged!)
That’s sort of what it’s like in the spiritual world. Sometimes the Lord leads me through times that are “dark”.
The secret to successful navigation in the dark is to learn how to walk with Him in the light. I need to learn lessons of trust, faith and assurance in the light so I know how to reference them in the dark. Thank goodness He NEVER leaves me. Even though He may be silent and seemingly absent, I have learned during my time in the light that He will always be present with His unconditional love and generous amounts of grace…even in the dark.
