Tell me an Amy story

My two year old granddaughter is full of funny yet sweet expressions…both verbal and visual. I guess that’s why the word “granddaughter” is one letter away from being “grand laughter”.

When my daughter, Hannah, was small I enjoyed telling her stories of a fictional character named Amy. Usually these stories would come at bedtime and featured an issue we had dealt with that day (i.e. boo-boo on finger, consequences of disobedience, difficulty with friend, etc.) and how the problem was to be correctly resolved.

It is a practice that I continue to enjoy with Eden, my two year old granddaughter. It brings her an element of comfort knowing that someone else (Amy) is dealing with the same problems as she (Eden). So…even though the real-life situation may not have ended perfectly, the story of Amy shows a picture of God’s way to deal with things.

Bible storiesIt happens the same way with my heavenly Father and me. He tells me stories (in His Word) of people who dealt with the same issues that I struggle with. It brings me encouragement to see I am not alone in facing problems in life. And He gives the perfect solution every time.
