There are some things from my past that I would rather not recall. However, there are some other things that I take great delight in thinking about.
Memory is a great thing!
Some people say the Bible is full of contradictions. They would probably see this as an example. “See! God says both to remember the past and to forget! Which way is it?!”
It’s both! As Ecclesiastes says, “To everything there is a season.” There are seasons to remember and seasons to forget.
God has brought me through some amazing experiences over the many years of my lifetime such as: a childhood with wonderful Christian parents, many musical opportunities through public school years, being married to my beautiful wife, present at the birth of our two children, receiving ordination to the gospel ministry, and many, many more. As the Psalmist says, “My heritage is beautiful to me.”
But what about those things I need to forget? I have certainly had my share of failures, disappointments and hurts. These are things I need to forget and not let them rob me of my joy. Unfortunately, my “rememberer” works too good at times and I lose my focus on Him.
Experiences that put Him in the spotlight need to be remembered. Those things that center on me can be forgotten!
