5 Things to do while waiting

There are times in my life when I need to wait on God. Psalm 27:14 kicks in.

“Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.”

For one reason or another, God’s answer to a question of mine may seemingly be delayed. This is not a time for discouragement but for ENCOURAGEMENT because God is working “behind the scene” to get me ready for His answer.Pocket watch

But during the wait what am I to do? Waiting is active- not passive. While waiting on the Lord, here are 5 things I have learned to do:

  1. Consistently read God’s Word. I need to be intentional and systematic in reading the Bible. I need to remember that EVERY word is from God and is useful in my life!
  2. Pray continually. Yes, I know I cannot close my eyes and pray every moment of every day. But I can remain in an attitude of prayer all day long.
  3. Do what I know to do. Though I may be waiting on a particular word or direction from God, there are some things that I KNOW to do in my attitudes, behavior, relationships, choices, etc.
  4. Watch expectantly. God is at work. Though I may not hear Him or see Him, He is at work all around me. I need to expect His activity.
  5. Allow God to “tweak” me. Let’s face it…I need a lot of work! Sometimes I may have biases or prejudices that need to be removed…or attitudes that need to be adjusted…or past sins that need to be dealt with…or….

Waiting can be hard but it is not fruitless. Sooner or later God will clearly show me the right path and I can continue my joyful journey with Him.
