4 ways God speaks

Several years ago my spiritual life was radically changed through a study called Experiencing God which was written by Henry Blackaby. There was nothing new in the content but it’s presentation was unique, direct and powerful.

One area that is still with me concerns how God speaks. His voice is heard one of four ways:

  1. God’s Word. This is the primary way that God speaks! The written word is actually and literally His voice. It is as relevant for today as it was thousands of years ago.
  2. Prayer. By the Holy Spirit, God can speak to me through that “still small voice” that I hear in my soul. He gives me affirmation, correction and direction or whatever I need at the time.
  3. Christian People. This can come through the church or by individuals from whom I seek counsel. I need to listen carefully to the words of godly people.
  4. Circumstances. Because God orchestrates everything that happens around me I must pay attention to my circumstances. There are no coincidences. Things happen for a reason.

God is speaking. The question is, am I willing to listen?
