Thankful for the military!

aa military flagRegent University is a very military friendly school. We are surrounded by U.S. Navy along with every other branch of our armed forces. I am grateful to all who have given and are still giving to help keep America safe and free.

My dad was in the Air Force (Army Air Corps) during the second world war. Probably due to his influence, there was a time in my early years that I considered joining the Air Force to fly some of those shiny planes.

Through the years, I always enjoyed leading our church choir in singing  “A Salute to the Armed Forces” for military observances. It included the theme songs from each branch of the military and was a terrific way to recognize the men and women who have given so much for our country’s freedom. I remember a Vietnam veteran expressing appreciation for the recognition. It was the first time he had been thanked for his service.

I also very much appreciate the sacrifices that families have to make for their loved ones to serve. Most of the time it involves much time away from home, moving several times, kids going to multiple schools over the years, Christmas Day absences. etc.

A heart-felt “thank you!” goes to all those who have served and are currently serving this great country of ours!
