Many years ago I loved hearing the pop song by The Carpenters that was called “Rainy Days and Mondays Always Get Me Down”. Not that they do get me down but it was a good emotional word picture.
Yesterday was a day that brought out the umbrellas…and it was a Monday. For The Carpenters it would have been a “double whammy!”
The rain continues today and as I watch campus pedestrian traffic moving about, almost everyone has some sort of head covering…mostly umbrellas.
A drenching rain can engulf a person. Sometimes it rains so hard you cannot see very far in front of you. I saw a couple of guys doing their daily jog in the downpour not concerned about getting soaked by the rain…seemingly enjoying the newfound weather conditions.
These joggers presented a great illustration of being soaked by God’s grace and mercy! There are times when my spiritual life gets a bit dry…not because of God’s lack of activity but because of my neglect of Him. But when I come to Him in repentance with a renewed faith He washes over me with unlimited grace restoring my soul and revealing His personal presence. At those times, I care not what “the world” may think or concerned about fitting into its patterns. I am drenched by His goodness!
Whether it is Monday or another day, anytime I see rainy days I can let the drenching rain remind of God’s great love and grace.
