The eyes have it

eyes

This morning I made an early morning visit to the Post Office to mail a package before heading the work. I arrived about 15 minutes before the PO opened as did a young lady with her parcel to mail.

While waiting in the lobby of the Post Office we had a good though brief chat about things including the pros and cons of Christmas shopping online, her husband’s service in the Navy, her work as a nurse at a local hospital and her 7 month old son, Chase, about to experience his first Christmas.

She was a person who looked you in the eyes while conversing. Not everyone does that.

Someone somewhere said the eyes are the windows into the soul. That is so true. By looking into a person’s eyes one can see the real person. Sadness makes a person’s eyes look smaller. Cheerfulness brings wide bright eyes. Is that smile fake? Look into the eyes to find out.

I want to be genuine in my engagement with people. God’s Word has some important things to say about my eyes…

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”   Matthew 6:22-24
