I love a parade!

It’s always fun to get up on Thanksgiving Day and watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV.

I love to see the colorful floats, marching bands, tethered balloon figures, Broadway musical excerpts and candid shots of the people who are watching from the sidelines. And, of course, the parade always reaches its end with Santa sending Christmas greetings to the crowd. It’s a fun mix!

Just as a parade is filled with many elements that follow one after another, each expressing a certain theme, the “Sermon On the Mount” is filled with many elements that follow one after another, each expressing a certain life principle from the teachings of Jesus.

It starts with the Beatitudes, followed by lessons of Salt and Light, then God’s direction concerning Anger, Lust, Divorce, Oaths, Retaliation and Loving our Enemies. And there are many more entries! Just like in a parade, each element deserves a close look. But unlike a parade, each element is from the eternal heart of God and will not be put away when the occasion is over.

I love the Word of God, and…I love a parade!
