“And the Green Jacket goes to…”

I love watching the Masters golf tournament.

While living in Augusta, GA, for a few years my family got “hooked” on this great sports event. We loved living in Augusta for other reasons as well (great friends, terrific church, beautiful azaleas, etc) but a love for The Masters has stayed with us over the years.

This year’s tournament was especially exciting with the play-off between Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia. As they are evidently good friends, they seemed to be torn between winning and seeing their good friend win. Ultimately, Sergio won on a terrific birdie putt that for a split second looked like it was going a “ring out” of the hole. It was another Masters moment for the ages.

One of my favorite Masters memories was in April, 1993, when Bernhard Langer won the tournament that happened to end on Easter Sunday. At his Green Jacket ceremony, Langer said something like, “I am especially glad to win this tournament on the day we celebrate the resurrection of my Lord.” Wow! It was powerful to hear this testimony from one of the greatest names in golf!

I must remember that there are strong believers in  every area of life whom God is using to point others to Himself.

I will never win a Green Jacket but one day I will receive a Kingly welcome to a place more beautiful than I could ever imagine. Even more beautiful that the Augusta National Golf Course.
