Trees please

In my limited understanding of horticulture, I have learned that trees can have an elaborate root system. Of course, they vary among species but since their roots are underground they are not visible to us.

On our university campus are many Oak trees…which are very strong and sturdy and have an incredible root system. I understand the shape of the tree is basically mirrored underground by the shape of its roots.

Some trees have shallow root systems which means they can be easily uprooted by a strong wind. But when strong winds blow the limbs of Oak trees, the trees become sturdier and the roots take a stronger hold. It’s almost like physical exercise building stronger muscles. With nourishment from light and water, these trees can live hundreds of years.

I want my spiritual life to have a deep and secure “root system”. This is built in a believer’s life by reading/meditating/applying God’s Word.

“God, help me to become as the person You describe in Psalm 1…
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water.’ “
