I remember hearing an illustration once that God has many wrapped “gifts” awaiting believers. He is eager to give away the beautiful blessings and is ready to make delivery but, sadly, they are never asked for.
I wonder how many times I could have been the recipient of such blessings…if only I had asked. I am reminded of the verse, “You do not have because you do not ask.” (James 4:2)
In Psalm 31, the Psalmist tells of the “good things” that God has stored for those who belong to Him.
19 How abundant are the good things
that you have stored up for those who fear you,
that you bestow in the sight of all,
on those who take refuge in you.
20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them
from all human intrigues;
you keep them safe in your dwelling
from accusing tongues.
Currently, I am reading David Jeremiah’s book, Revealing the Mysteries of Heaven where he describes the biblical picture of our future Paradise. The book is inspiring, exciting and encouraging!
One of the aspects that we can anticipate in heaven is that of rewards for Christ followers.
God is a Giver of good things…both in this life and the next. And He is able to do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine”. And I can imagine a lot! Ephesians 3:20 is not a promise…but a description of God’s great power and ability.
So…God is ready and willing to give good gifts now and in heaven. May I have a heart and attitude that pleases the Lord and depend on His timing for the giving of good things.
