Empty Stables

Back during my college days, I had a campus ministries director who taught me this verse from The Living Bible version of God’s Word.

 “An empty stable stays clean—
but there is no income from an empty stable.

Proverbs 14:4

Honestly, I cannot recall the context of our conversation back then but this verse has come to my mind many times over the years.

When the house is a mess with toys scattered about, certainly we straighten it up and
thank the Lord for the income of children and grandchildren.

When there are dirty dishes in the sink, we put them in the dishwasher and thank the
Lord for the income of food to eat.

When the car needs washing, we thank the Lord for the income of a vehicle to drive.

When a relationship needs some work, we talk/confront/encourage and thank the Lord
for the income of friends.

Anything worth having is worth the effort to keep it functioning. And sometimes I must get my hands dirty.

I am thankful for the Bethlehem stable that was once bedraggled from the birth of a baby followed by visits from some dirty, smelly shepherds. That active stable brought forth an incredible Income!
