Years ago, Katha and I took the kids to see the movie, Hook – the story of Peter Pan when he was all grown up.
Peter had forgotten all about his Neverland adventures and was busy climbing the ladder of success in the business world.
A scene near the beginning of the movie shows Peter (played by Robin Williams) and his wife, Moira (played by Caroline Goodall), having an argument about Peter being preoccupied with his business dealings even while on their London vacation. Moira was concerned that Peter was not spending enough time with their young children and finally had to say, regarding their growing-up years, “Peter, you’re missing it.”
Peter was focused on something other than the most important things.
Sometimes, that happens with me. I get so caught up in the “weeds” of life that I focus on NOT the most important things. And its like the Holy Spirit whispers to me, “Craig, you’re missing it.” I wish I could say that every time I hear that prompting in my spirit I acquiesce to Him. But – the truth is – sometimes I continue in my pursuits until I am “shaken” by challenging circumstances.
One of the first scripture verses I memorized as a young adult was Matthew 6:33…
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,
and all these things will be added to you.
“God, help me not to ‘miss it’ by giving attention to things that will draw me away from You.”
