I’ve always thought of myself as a frugal shopper. I compare prices to claim the best deal.
But when it comes to my life journey, comparing my life with others can be damaging. God made me unique and has a one-of-a kind path for me to follow. By comparing myself to others whom I see on social media or associate with in the office I can become depressed, confused, ungrateful, resentful and even bitter.
As long as I am walking in the Light as revealed by Him day to day, I can rest in the security that I am exactly where he wants me to be. I should be happy for others when good things happen to them and thankful for the blessings that have been shown me.
The pattern of my life is as unique as He is incomparable.
I serve a very creative God who is way above being compared with other gods. In His Word, He offers these rhetorical questions,
“With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?” (Isaiah 46:5)
Out of His unique character He created me a unique human being. And His goal is to make me more like His Son. If I compare myself with anyone, it should be to Him.

Thank you for this admonition, Craig. Another dangerous comparison is measuring how we want our lives to be or expected them to be with how they actually are. None of our expectations would ever have been as great as the work the Lord is accomplishing in each unique individual life.
