When I was a little boy, my family joined my cousin’s family at the beach for a day of fun and relaxation. It was my first time to see the ocean
After navigating through the crowd of beach goers and settling into our beach spot, my cousin and I headed for the waves. For a long time we rode the waves into shore then headed back out into the water to do it again and again. It was great fun.
At some point we looked for our parents and our beach spot. But we couldn’t find them anywhere.
When we realized we were “lost” at the crowded beach, we panicked.
Eventually, with the help of the beach patrol, we found our families and all was well. But we had learned a big lesson about the waves. The ocean’s waves don’t carry you directly back to your place of origin but come into shore at an angle… subtlety taking you a bit further down the beachfront with each run.
For a little boy who is at the beach for the first time, it can have a frightening outcome.
The Bible warns about spiritual drifting… gradually leaving the God I love. Talk about a frightening outcome!?
I don’t want to drift from Him.. but draw closer to Him. Heed the warning…
“Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.” Hebrews 3:12-13
