Music Memories

It’s amazing how certain songs bring back particular memories of days gone by.

I recall as a kid listening to the song “Easter Parade” on a yellow “45” record. We had to put one of those round plastic doodads in the center hole in order to play it on our record player. To this day, whenever I hear that song (which is rarely) I think back to those early childhood days.

One summer I worked with Chris Liebrum
(my future brother-in-law) at First Baptist Church in Del Rio, Texas. One of my fondest memories is riding in his old Plymouth listening to The Carpenters on 8 Track stereo. When I hear “Rainy Days and Mondays” I take a blast to the past and those hot rewarding days.

Whenever I hear anything sung by Neil Diamond or the group Chicago I revert back to my college days at Howard Payne. LOTS of great memories!

On one the first Youth Choir Tours I led, we attended Sunday morning worship at North Phoenix Baptist Church. The tour had been difficult to plan and some the arrangements were “last minute”. The Call to Worship for that service was the hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”. An unusual place in the order of service but the Lord used it powerfully to show me His fingerprints of grace and mercy on all the plans for that tour.

Music has been an important part of my life. God has used music of various genres to encourage and lead me. In my humble response to Him, I can only say “Play on!”
