Years ago I used to play golf. Lots of golf. I never was very good but seemed to always get that “I’m-coming-back!” shot to ensure my clubs would stay active.

Recently, my daughter and her husband gave me a birthday present that included a nine hole round of golf at our local links. So…after twenty-five years of my golf game laying dormant, Chris and I manged to make it around nine holes.
As you would expect, my game was a bit off. OK – a lot off. My biggest challenge was to be consistently accurate.. Some swings hit an “air ball” or into the dirt and some hit only the tee. But occasionally I would actually hit the ball down the fairway. Once I even put the ball on the green with a chance at par! (Miracle of miracles) But there was nothing consistent about my game.
To get good at something takes consistent practice.
My spiritual walk is no different. If I want to grow in my Christian life I must practice certain disciplines. Read the Bible . Talk with God (prayer). Share my faith with others. Show kindness, fairness and humility. If I want to grow spiritually, all this takes consistency. Of course, the key to all this is yielding to the Holy Spirit in my life.
So the next time I am on the golf course, I will shoot for consistency along with par.
“Fore!”
Jo Ann gave me a set of golf lessons for Christmas. I have yet to make use of them, and have not been on a course in at least a couple of years. But, like you, I enjoy getting out there to swing a club. Once in a while, the ball actually goes where I want it to go. Consistency is my goal, both in golf and in my relationship with God. Thanks for the reminder.

Great to hear from you, Butch! The only thing consistent about my golf game is inconsistency!
