The story of Mary Poppins is a fun, heart-warming tale of an adventure full of surprises. Many people have written about the lessons gleaned from the movie. Here are a dozen lessons we can learn from the story that match Biblical principles:.
- Be positive. No matter how bad the situation, there is always good that can be found. Romans 8:28 tells us that God uses everything to His end.
- Every action has a consequence. Accept responsibility for our mistakes. 1 John 1:9 is a wonderful promise from God that He will cleanse if we will confess.
- Not every promise made will be kept. During WWI there were many “foxhole conversions” that saw hasty promises undone.
- Choose your friends wisely. Godly counsel comes from godly friends.
- Care for those who have less. Be generous, not oppressive, to the poor.
- its OK to get a little dirty. Proverbs 14:4 says, “An empty stable stays clean but there’s no income from an empty stable.”
- Carefully consider your words. Where there are many words, sin is unavoidable.
- Share what you know. We are ambassadors for Him.
- Be respectful to adults. Children obey your parents.
- It’s what’s inside that counts. Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.
- Always be prepared. Be ready to explain the hope that is within you.
- Have a cheery disposition. A glad heart makes a cheerful face.
God’s Word has much to say about living in this world. The fictitious Mary Poppins can help us see the Christian principles found in the true Jehovah. The methods of our day may change but the message stays the same.
