Originating from the French, “detour” is defined as, “a long or roundabout route that is taken to avoid something or to visit somewhere along the way.”
We usually see “Detour” signs around road work to keep us safe and out of the way of danger. Although they are usually for making things better, detours have a way of interrupting our plans.
Such is life.
Just when I think I have the plan for my life all figured out, God throws a detour into the mix.

I want to go one way but God says, “Not yet. I need you to go this way for now. I have something for you to do.” I may mumble and complain about the delay but it always turns out to be for my best.
There are numerous people in the Bible who experienced one (or more) of God’s detours. Think Jonah, Moses, Esther. Even Jesus faced a detour from His Father as He prayed that night in the garden, “Father, please, if there is any other way, let this cup pass from me.”
So…when the Detour sign appears, I need to follow that path with a thankful spirit…and a happy heart…knowing He has perfect timing and will bless my obediebnce
