It has been almost a year since leaving my last full time job.
All my adult life had been serving in churches who very generously paid my salary and benefits. When leaving full time work, I also left behind the security of health care coverage. The plans we participated in were extremely helpful in covering our medical needs.
Then things changed.
We could see on the horizon the severe changes that were coming to our country’s health care world. It created many questions and much anxiety to families throughout the nation. At the same time, the Lord was bringing other changes in my and Katha’s lives. With certainty, we sensed His release from my place of employment into the world of the unknown…trusting in His complete provision.
Enter Samaritan Ministries.
A good friend had told me about his family’s participation in an noninsurance approach to the typical health care program. Instead of purchasing insurance to cover medical issues, a nationwide network of Christian people were sharing the costs of one another’s medical needs. For a much smaller monthly money amount we now have the privilege of sending funds directly to a participant in need…thus “sharing” the costs. Of course, along with the financial amounts, the recipient also receives notes of encouragement and prayers from others. That’s why it is called health share instead of health care.
Sounds biblical, doesn’t it?
So…if you are priced out of the health care system and like the idea of sharing needs of Christians around the country, check out Samaritan Ministries. It’s a proactive response to the nation’s current health care mess…and its benefits are eternal.
