Substitute teaching has introduced me to an incredible mix of people.
In the few days I have experienced being a “sub” I have visited four of our MCPS schools where I have met faculty, staff and students whose personalities cover the proverbial gamut of types.
Some of the people I have met are friendly and outgoing…others quiet and guarded. I have made friends with some delightful special needs students and some outstanding athletes. Most teachers I’ve met have been caring and helpful…a few have been impatient and preoccupied. I’ve not crossed paths with too many administrative types but the ones I’ve met have been encouraging. With almost everyone, though, I have noticed something: giving a simple smile goes a long way in setting people at ease.
I heard someone say one time that no one is encouraged enough. How true. Everyone that I (and you) meet could use a bit of encouragement.
The Creator is also the great Encourager!
It is mind boggling to think of all the people that I meet and see throughout the day and realize that God made each one…and that He made each person very unique. No two people are alike…except that each needs to be encouraged.
If you believe as I do that God made everything and everybody and that He orchestrates all our activities, then He has a reason for every person I meet today – faculty, staff or student.
“Lord, use me as an instrument of yours to encourage somebody today!”
