At sixty-two years of age I am finally learning to drink coffee.
I never liked coffee because it was always too hot (It killed the taste buds on my tongue!) and too bitter. There were only two times I had a cup of coffee in my past. Both times, I was in the middle of freezing to death and I needed the warmth in my body. But coffee as a beverage of choice? No way!
I confess that the aroma of coffee has always been appealing. But just as the appearance of cottage cheese is appealing, I can’t stand the taste. (Or maybe with cottage cheese it’s the texture?)
What has prompted me toward drinking coffee is the needed “pick-me-up” that I understand coffee can give. I suppose it is my age but my energy level can really drag in the afternoons.
So I have learned there are a million ways to prepare coffee. Because I cannot yet drink it “black”, I doctor it up with flavoring or Half and Half or sugar or… After the color is just right I adjust the taste.
Actually, iced coffee tastes pretty good but it seems to lack the traditional nuances of holding a hot cup of coffee in your hands.
How do you like coffee? Maybe I can learn from your coffee history!
