It’s time for the Final Four in NCAA basketball. But this post is not about that exciting play-off picture but about something more exciting: God’s Word!
The 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians is about love. Most believers probably already know that. And it closes with
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
So…FAITH, HOPE and LOVE. All three are huge, necessary parts of the Christian life. But LOVE is the greatest? I wonder why? Let’s take a look:
FAITH is something that I always need more of! Many times I must confess to the Lord that I believe…but please help my unbelief! There is never a shortage in God’s store room of faith. He gives it freely when I ask with a right heart.
HOPE is a beautiful possession. God gives it freely to those who are seeking Him and His ways. Without hope, life is pointless. As David said in Psalm 27
“I would have despaired unless I knew that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
LOVE is a non-option for the believer. I must be other-centered and prepared to show love to everyone who crosses my path throughout the day.
Here is an interesting observation about the big three:
FAITH and HOPE come from God; LOVE is God! I guess that’s why it is the greatest of the three.
I wonder if anyone playing the the Final Four find importance in these three elements of life?
