Sometimes things don’t turn out the way we think they will. Remember when you were a kid and some grown-up would ask what you wanted to be when you grew up? How’d that turn out?
Life has a way of putting a twist in our plans that cause us to want to shout, “IT’S NOT SUPPOSE TO HAPPEN THIS WAY!” Just when we think all is going swimmingly, something happens to add a major disappointment: can’t get into the school you were counting on…turned down by the person you wanted to marry…can’t qualify for that dream home, etc. It can lead to a situation that Bill Gothard used to call the “death of a vision”. Ouch!
I was recently introduced to a terrific song by Steven Curtis Chapman called, “The Glorious Unfolding”, that addresses these times along life’s road that cause us to feel lost and empty…when life isn’t turning out like we thought it would. It is a powerful reminder that God has a great plan for our lives that He is in process of unfolding. Part of the lyrics are:
Lay your head down tonight
Take a rest from the fight
Don’t try to figure it out
Just listen to what I’m whispering to your heart
‘Cause I know this is not
Anything like you thought
The story of your life was gonna be
If you are at a place in your life where you need a spiritual lift, it would be worth taking a few minutes to listen to this song and sense God’s presence as He whispers to your heart.
Just a reminder: God is in control!
