Days of Elijah

Here is a poem that gives a synopsis of Elijah’s life…and a reminder of the perspective that I need!

Elijah 2

ELIJAH, by Craig Hughes
Elijah was a man of God, devout in every way.
His faith was bold, his strength secure, he walked with God each day.

With prayer he made the raining stop for three long years of drought,
And brought to life a mother’s son when she was filled with doubt.

Then way atop Mount Carmel he contested men of Baal.
He challenged them to reign down fire to see their god prevail.

But after they could not produce the object of the games
Elijah prayed and God burst forth in all-consuming flames.

So once again Jehovah proved to be the source of truth
And used this mighty man of God to offer up the proof.

Yet, mighty as Elijah was his armor held a chink.
At times he felt alone and weak, more often than you think.

At one such time Elijah ran and hid within a cave
But God appeared dramatically and these instructions gave:

“Elijah, I’m not through with you. Make way toward the city,
I have a king for you to crown. Don’t wallow in self pity.

With faith renewed and courage, too, with power from above,
Elijah once again set out to serve the God he loved.

The lesson of Elijah’s life for us is made quite clear;
With eyes on God our faith will grow but otherwise we fear.
