The snow has been enjoyable (for the most part) but I am ready for spring time.
And with spring comes the beauty of God’s creation: leaves on trees, green grass in meadows, flowers in bloom and critters moving about.
Spring also means working in the flower beds. But I have never been very good at weeding flower beds. Just ask Katha! I can’t seem to distinguish between the new flowers and the new weeds. So, yes, I sometimes pull the good plants and leave the wrong ones to flourish.
It reminds me of Jesus’ parable in Matthew 13. In describing the kingdom of God He told the story of a field filled with wheat. But while people were sleeping a vandal arrived at the field where he scattered weed seeds among the growing wheat. What a mean thing to do! How in the world do you separate the wheat from the weeds?!
Well…you don’t. Not yet, anyway.
Jesus said let them grow together…but there will come a time (at the harvest) where the distinction will be made. The weeds will be bundled and burned. The wheat will be protected inside the barn.
So…it doesn’t get me off the hook of weeding flower beds this spring, but it gives me great hope of the future “harvest”. I am grateful to be in the wheat category!
God has given you some amazing gifts. Have you considered compiling your blogs into a self-published devotional? If not you should Pastor Craig! Miss seeing you all! Rick Leary
