Handel’s Messiah

Last night I had the joy of attending a performance of Handel’s Messiah by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra & Chorus. It was incredible!

vsoThe four soloists were outstanding, the tempos were exciting, the chorus was magnificent and the segues of scripture readings were very fitting. As a total “package” the
performance actually offered a meaningful time of worship. The story of Christ was presented clearly and effectively – from the angels singing “Glory to God” at the first Christmas to the concluding “Worthy is the Lamb”.

As I watched/listened to the moving performance I could not help but think that Handel must have been overshadowed by the Spirit to have written the entire Messiah in only twenty-four days. Miraculous!

As excellent and exciting as the performance was, it was still lacking. It was the very best that humans can do but no human performance can compare to the resounding praises by hundreds of angels around the throne of God. THAT performance is incomparable and indescribable. And one day I will get to attend the performance firsthand.

Hallelujah!
