A child is born

My grandson, Arrow Isaiah Day Hughes, was born early yesterday morning. The proud parents are Caleb and Rachel Hughes. Mom and baby and Dad are all doing well.

“Arrow” is a curious name that carries deep meaning from God’s Word. It comes from the thought found in Isaiah 49:1-2…

The Servant of the Lord

“Listen to me, you islands;
    hear this, you distant nations:
Before I was born the Lord called me;
    from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name.
He made my mouth like a sharpened sword,
    in the shadow of his hand he hid me;
he made me into a polished arrow
    and concealed me in his quiver.”

Names are important. Typically, we live up to the meaning of our names. So…God must have an exciting journey ahead of this sweet little guy!

If we form an acrostic from the letters in the name ARROW, here is what comes to my mind about our grandson:

A – Stands for AWE. To think that God had purpose and intention when shaping the baby in his mother’s womb is amazing. (Psalm 139:13-16)

R – Stands for RELATIONAL. Life was not meant to be done alone. God made us to need one another…thus the various gifts of the church. (Ephesians 2:19)

R – Stands for RELEASE. As an arrow is released from the archer, may Arrow be released by the Lord and used in remarkable ways for the Kingdom of God. (Isaiah 6:8)

O – Stands for OTHERS. As Arrow grows, may he always have an attitude of being other-centered. (1 Corinthians 10:24)

W – Stands for WORSHIP. When we  do anything that pleases God, it is an act of worship. As a servant of the Lord, we pray that Arrow will develop a heart of worship that will last forever. (John 4:23)

Hey, Arrow! Welcome to the family!
