Kenny

Kenny Basham was a friend of mine.

After touching many lives with his sweet spirit and powerful testimony, Kenny was called home to his heavenly Father last Thursday, November 15. He had been born with a heart defect that affected the right side of his body.

I never doubted Kenny’s support, loyalty and friendship. As his Minister of Music for over fifteen years, I had the privilege of watching him grow from being a side-line observer to an on-field player in the Music Ministry.

Kenny and his mom, Betty, were always faithful participants in the life of  our wonderful church in Christiansburg, Virginia. In fact, they had been active in the church long before I arrived on the scene.

Betty had been a long time member of the church’s adult choir. Although faithful to the church, Kenny had been content to watch the choir from a distance.

One day, we were in need of some help in the A/V booth during choir rehearsals. I approached Kenny about helping us. After giving the invitation some careful/prayerful consideration, he agreed – and that began a terrific relationship in our choir family.

It has been my calling through the years to serve God and His people through Music Ministry. Hopefully, He has used me in that role in some small way. However, Kenny is an example of the ministry changing directions – for God certainly used him to minister to me.
