“We have different gifts according to the grace given us.”
Romans 12:6 (NIV)
Groucho Marks used to host a game show many years ago called You Bet Your Life. For some reason (maybe because my dad was a piano technician) the only thing I remember from the show was the question, “How many keys are on a piano?” The answer: 88.
I was reminded of this question today as I was disinfecting our church’s piano keyboard with Clorox wipes.

We are blessed at our church to have a very talented and excellent pianist. Yet, even he would have a hard time playing beautiful music if the middle keys were gone. On some pianos a few of the keys may stick making it extremely difficult for the player to play as needed.
The piano keys near both ends of the keyboard are the ones less used. But when they are needed it is important that they are in place and play as expected. The keys in the middle of the keyboard are the ones which stay the most active. But each key is important.
The Bible makes clear that the same principle holds true for believers in the church. Each Christian’s role is an important part of the body.
As Romans 12 explains, there are specific gifts of prophesying, serving, teaching, encouraging, giving and showing mercy. And there are others. If you are a Christian, you have been given at least one gift that God wants to use in the life of your church. What is yours?
Still enjoy your thoughts and writing — be at peace and full of joy – I consider you and Katha dear friends, even if I didn’t show myself very friendly – I continue to ask myself what I have done exactly that makes a certain group of people isolate my friendship from their presence – maybe I have always tried too hard — and I have been waiting for over forty years for God to show me what he would have me do for His Glory And His Kingdom- I thought I had a small ministry in singing and presenting the precepts of God’s Word through Song but some have told me that’s not useful anymore or what God wants- that He doesn’t want me to sing while they have to sit and listen -I am still searching for affirmation of what God has gifted me with through those that I place myself under the authority God has given them in the church – maybe that’s just been my struggle all along. Your journey has been heartbreaking and at the same time inspirational because I have seen Gods hand still on your life the whole time – while you were waiting… I enjoy your writing still and prayer for you and your family – please keep me and my family in your prayers. Enjoying your posts! My gift is singing. Did you know that? Lol!! Although, since my mama passed I’ve not been able to sing a lick hardly. I’m not in the choir at this time and of course not singing solos right now. I find myself, during congregational singing that I’m singing Alto, and I think it’s cause I sound just like my mama when singing alto.. I miss her so much Craig!! I’ll get back to singing one day.
