24/7

When we see 24/7, it usually refers to a service that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But may I suggest this post refers to another type of 24/7 found in the book of Psalms. Psalm 24:7.

Lift up your heads, O gates!
    And be lifted up, O ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.

It’s about gates and doors.

Gates and doors provide a way of entrance and exit. Think of a fence gate or the front door of a house. Usually, it opens to a place of provision or protection.

In the case of Psalm 24:7, it probably refers to the people of God preparing to enter the temple to worship God. You can almost hear the people corporately saying verses 7 – 10 antiphonally before they enter that place.

The good news for us is that we need not enter a temple or any other building to have access to our great God. Once we open the “door” of our lives to Him, He is always there to lead, guide, listen, encourage, direct – whatever.

Remember that popular painting of Jesus knocking at the door which has no door knob on His side? It’s a great picture showing that we must do the opening. But after that, He is available 24/7.

Lift up your heads, you gates;
    be lifted up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.

Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord strong and mighty,
    the Lord mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, you gates;
    lift them up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.

Who is he, this King of glory?
    The Lord Almighty—
    he is the King of glory.”

Psalm 24:7-10

  1. Thanks Craig. Hope y’all are all doing well.

    My daddy celebrated his 100th birthday on Jan. 7th. It was a very small gathering due to the virus but it was a good time. The dementia is much worse since my mama passed but I’m thankful he still knows all of us and can still carry on a conversation. He especially loves to sing those old songs he used to hear when he was in his 20’s. He’ll sing for anyone who will give him an audience. He loves it!! He’s still living in his home beside of Mark and I. I have caregivers with him except for sleep time, and that’s when I keep a monitor on and by my side of the bed so I can hear him if he needs me. Thankfully, he sleeps all night for the most part. I’m thankful to still have him.

    Think of you guys often and still miss you! I’m still singing and will be singing this Sunday a very appropriate song for these times; “He Is Able”. If you think of me please say a prayer that the Lord will use me as his vessel in singing this song like never before. Thanks so much!

  2. Thanks for the reminder to us to lift up the gates of pride, stubbornness, and unconfessed sin so that He may enter in. These are trying times, and His guidance and wisdom are needed more than ever “24/7”.
